Balmoral Castle the backdrop to the race

Myles supports the Taqa Bratani Dimaond Jubilee Mile - 20 December 2011

One of Aberdeen's top middle distance runners hopes the Taqa Bratani Diamond Jubilee Mile at Balmoral Castle next April will attract some top athletes as well as fun runners.

Myles Edwards, winner of the ConocoPhillis 5Km at Balmoral two years ago, is delighted to hear that a series of mile runs has been added to the Balmoral road race programme next Spring.

People of all ages and levels of ability and experience are being encouraged to take part in the runs which are being held to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in 2012.

The emphasis will be very much on fun as participants will be set off in batches with everyone getting an accurate time.

Edwards thinks this is a great idea but he also believes there might be scope for one of the runs being reserved for the north-east's best milers and perhaps others from further afield.

He said:"The mile distance is appealing to so many runners. I think you get some of the best Scots taking part if it was suggested to them.

I'd love to have done it, but I'll be off to Kenya to train at the end of February for two to three months so I'll miss Balmoral.

Entries for the Taqa Bratani mile runs, which take place on Sunday 29th April 2012, have now opened.
