Runners taking part in the 10k race

Top British Runner to appear at Knockburn for Balmoral Launch - 6 October 2011

Richard Nerurkar, one of Britain's best ever endurance athletes, will be sharing his knowledge and experience at the second 'Running on Dreams' seminar at Knockburn Loch sports centre near Banchory on 30th October.

Local runners will have a wonderful opportunity to speak with a man who has achieved success at the highest level.

And there's an added bonus as the day will mark the official launch of RunBalmoral 2012 when entries for next year's big event will open.

Nerurkar won the World Marathon Cup in 1993 and finished fifth in the 1996 Olympic Games. His quickest time of 2hr 8min 36secs was set at the 1997 London marathon and that remains the third fastest ever recorded by a Briton.

He was also a talented track runner, finishing fifth in the 10,000m at the 1991 world championships and 17th in the 1992 Olympic Games.

In 2002 he was awarded an MBE for his services to sport.

Richard is a close friend of the legendary Ethiopian distance runner Haile Gebrselassie and between them they organise the hugely popular Great Ethiopian Run in Addis Ababa.

Richard, who has spent 10 years living in Africa, is coming to Deeside to advise local runners about how best to train for distance races, covering all events from 10Km up to the marathon.

He'll also be speaking about how Ethiopians live and train, and will be pointing out what runners in this country might learn from them.

Former international runners Fraser Clyne and Mel Edwards will also be on hand to add their views and to provide guidance.

There's also an organised training run and lunch will be provided.

Details for booking a place at the Nerurkar event can be found at or by calling 01467 628283.

Advanced booking is advised.
