Exciting Future for RunBalmoral - 9 October 2012
Tuesday 6thNovember 2012 is the launch date for RunBalmoral 2013 - the biggest participation sports event in the north east of Scotland.
The races take place in the magnificent grounds of Balmoral Castle over the weekend of 27thand 28thApril 2013. The Royal estate offers one of the most dramatic settings for a running event, not just in the UK but worldwide, and every year more and more people of all ages come to Deeside to take part. Last year most of our races were fully subscribed and in 2013 we expect at least 5,000 runners to compete in the Stena Drilling Tartan 10K, the ConocoPhillips 5K, the Kongsberg Maritime secondary schools 2.5k and the MPH Ltd primary schools 1.5K on the Saturday and the Petrofac Challenge 15 mile multi terrain race on the Sunday. With almost as many spectators coming along to support the runners, the estate will be buzzing with excitement.
For those not taking part in the races there is an opportunity to visit the new Event Village where a range of activities for all ages will be on offer.
Among the highlights of last year’s races was Great Britain mountain running international Robbie Simpson’s victory in the Petrofac Challenge 15 mile multi-terrain run in which Morgan Windram-Geddes was the first woman to finish. Robbie and Morgan each won trips to Africa and next month they will be jetting off to Addis Ababa to take part in the Great Ethiopian 10K Run.
For 2013 we will be introducing a new Corporate Team Challenge in the Stena Drilling 10K and the ConocoPhillips 5K. Other exciting initiatives will be announced at the launch.
Runners can enter all races online as from noon on Tuesday 6th November 2012 at www.runbalmoral.com
