Champions to run in schools races - 24 April 2012
Two Scottish primary schools cross country champions are among the favourites to win the girls and boys MPH 1.5K races at Balmoral on Saturday.
Rebecca Eggeling (Robert Gordon's College) and Finlay Strachan (Chapel of Garioch), both members of Aberdeen AAC, won their respective events in the national championships at Kirkcaldy last Saturday.
Rebecca won the P7 girls' race in fine style by finishing 11secs ahead of her closest challenger.
She will now attempt to defend the MPH primary schools title she won in impressive fashion last year.
Finlay took top spot in the P7 boys contest in Fife and he'll travel to Balmoral hoping to fill an important gap in his medal collection.
Two years ago he was third in the MPH 1.5K race and last year he was runner-up.
This is his last year in the age group competition and he'll be hoping to mark the occasion by posting a win.
Kemnay's Gregor Young will defend his title in the Kongsberg Maritime secondary schools 2.5K race.
Last year Gregor set a course record of 7min 19sec when defeating Connor Eyre (Buckhaven) by four secs. Connor has entered again so we can look forward to another exciting contest.
Last year's primary schools winner Stewart Millar is also in the field along with his Aberdeen AAC clubmate Ewan Calder.
Peterhead's Shelley Duncan returns to defend her title in the girls race in which last year's second and third placers, Leona Blacklaws (Mearns Academy) and Stacey Innes (Inverurie), are again competing.
