Marathon Champion to Compete at Balmoral - 23 January 2012
Scottish marathon and 10Km champion Ross Houston has confirmed he is to compete in the Petrofac Challenge 15 mile race at Balmoral on 29th April.
The Central AC runner won the Stena Tartan Drilling 10Km in 2008 but now feels he'd like to try his hand at the longer distance.
He said:"I'm planning to to the Edinburgh marathon in May so the 15 miler at Balmoral will be a good race for me in the lead up to that.
"Of course there's an excellent prize as well, so that's obviously an attraction."
Houston is one of a number of top athletes expected to battle for a trip to a major race in Ethiopia which is being offered to both the men's and women's winners of the Petrofac race at Balmoral.
The prize is the most valuable ever offered in a north east running event and it has certainly attracted the attention of the Scottish running community.
Houston is likely to face some tough opposition with defending champion Robbie Simpson (Deeside Runners) having already stated his desire to compete again.
But last year's women's winner, Clare Whitehead (Deeside Runners), will be unable to compete as she has other commitments on the weekend of the race.
Whitehead hopes to represent Great Britain in this year's World and European mountain running championships and she'll be attending a British squad training get-together at Loughborough.
