Record-holder Thompson loves the Balmoral races - 27 November 2011
Fiona Thompson is the first top female runner to express a strong desire to compete in next year's Balmoral road races.
The former Aberdeen athlete, who competes for Central AC, won the ConocoPhillps 5Km at the Deeside meeting last April when she set a women's record time of 17min 46sec.
She also has a fine record of consistency in Balmoral's Stena Drilling Tartan 10Km, having won in 2007, before finishing second in 2009 and third in 2010.
Fiona is on the comeback trail atfter suffering a serious knee injury earlier this year, but she's hoping to back in peak form by time the Balmoral races come around next April.
She said: "It has been a pretty frustrating year but I'm hoping to be back to run at Balmoral as I love the event.
"I would guess at the moment that I will run the 5Km again."
Entries for the Balmoral road races, which take place over the weekend on 28th and 29th April 2012, opened last month and already close to 600 runners have signed up to take part.
