Runners taking part in the 10k race

Balmoral champions are Great Britain stars - 12 December 2013

Two Balmoral race champions are included in the Great Britain women's and men's teams for the Bupa Great Edinburgh international cross country meeting to be held at Holyrood Park on 11th January.

Rhona Auckland (Banchory Stonehaven AC) and Andrew Butchart (Central AC) set respective record times of 16min 35secs and 14min 46secs when winning the women's and men's divisions of the ConocoPhillips 5Km in April.

Rhona,20, has been promoted to the GB senior side following her outstanding performance in the under-23 age group race at the European cross country championships in Belgrade on 8th December where she finished seventh and helped her side win team gold.

Andrew,22, was unfortunate not to be selected for the men's team for Belgrade but is rewarded for his fine form this year by being given his first international call-up.

A third Balmoral champion, Robbie Simpson (Deeside Runners), has also represented Great Britain this year.

Robbie pulled off a remarkable double on the royal estate when winning the Stena Drilling Tartan 10Km and the 15 mile trail race less than 24 hours later.

He went on to compete for Great Britain in the European mountain running championships during the summer.
