Balmoral Castle the backdrop to the race

The countdown to Run Balmoral 2014 begins now - 7 October 2013

The launch of Run Balmoral 2014 one of the most popular participation sports events in the north east of Scotland takes place at the Aberdeen Sports Village on Monday 28thOctober 2013.

The races take place in the magnificent grounds of Balmoral Castle over the weekend of Saturday 26thand Sunday 27thApril 2014. The Royal estate offers one of the most dramatic settings for a running event, not just in the UK, but worldwide, and every year more and more people of all ages come to Deeside to take part.

Last year we had a record number of entries for the programme of six races and in 2014 we expect more than 5,000 runners of all ages to compete.

On the Saturday we have the Stena Drilling Tartan 10K, the ConocoPhillips 5K, the Kongsberg Maritime secondary schools 2.5k and the MPH Ltd primary schools 1.5K . Then on the Sunday there’s the Big Trail Race (15 Miles) and the Wee Trail race (3 miles). The Wee Trail Race is a new initiative this year and is designed to give adults and younger runners (aged 15 and over) a taste for this type of event.

With thousands of spectators coming along to support the runners, the estate will be buzzing with excitement and for those not taking part in the races there is an opportunity to visit the Event Village where a range of activities for all ages will be on offer.

There were many highlights last year as five course records were broken.

Liam Barnsby set a new record in the Kongsberg Maritime secondary schools 2.5K, Andrew Butchart and Rhona Auckland broke the men’s and women’s records in the ConocoPhillips 5K, Robbie Simpson set a new mark in the Stena Drilling Tartan 10K and Angela Mudge cracked the women’s record in the St. James’s Place Wealth Management 15 mile trail race.  Aberdeen Sports Village won the Corporate Challenge Team Trophy.
