Deeside's double triumph in trail race team battle - 2 May 2013
Deeside Runners have been crowned the Scottish Athletics men's and women's team champions in the St. James's Place Wealth Management 15 mile Trail Race held at Balmoral Castle on Sunday.
Robbie Simpson got the Deeside club's challenge off to a perfect start when he led the field home in 1hr 29min 3secs, less than 24 hours after he had broken the course record in the Stena Drilling Tartan 10K.
Crathes half marathon champion Donald Kerridge was next Deeside man home in sixth position (1:36:31) while Ali Hubbard (seventh in 1:36:53) and Alan Sealy (eleventh in 1:39:24) were the other scorers for the winning side.
Hill running specialist Ruth Mackenzie, who regularly trains around the grounds of the Balmoral Estate, led the Deeside women's team home when finishing sixth woman, 54th overall, in 1:53:50.
Ruth was backed up by Samantha Rendell, ninth woman, 66th overall, in 1:56:55; Claire Martin, 29th woman, 169th overall, in 2:14:13; and Jane Oliver, 68th woman, 247th overall in 2:32:23.
