From Chicago to Balmoral - 8 January 2013
The Chicago-based runner has signed up for the Stena Tartan Drilling 10K on 27th April which means she will be travelling more than 3,700 miles to take part in the race.
So what has persuaded Clara to embark on such an ambitious mission?
She said: "I have run in several 5K races in Chicago, so it was time to aim a little higher.
Well, we'll see. I read that there's a hill on the Balmoral course. I won't be 'running up that hill with no problem.' I'll be the one walking up and my aim is not to finish last.
This will be my first visit to Scotland and my first 10K. The original plan was to run in la Cursa el Corte Ingles in Barcelona, but I've visited Barcelona several times already.
Scotland was much more appealing because I've wanted to visit your country for years. It's the whole men in kilts thing... Oh, and I hear there's a Castle there.
We're making a mini-vacation of it. My brother and his girlfriend, any of my friends who I can recruit, and I, will all be there for a week.
My cousin is also supposed to be running. However, the fact that she hasn't signed up yet makes me think she is having second thoughts!
My brother will insist on a scotch tasting tour, so any suggestions on where to go will be very welcome."
Clara's brother will be delighted to learn that the Royal Lochnagar Distillery is right next door to Balmoral.
